TACA (Central American Air Transportation) began operations in 1938 in El Salvador as a cargo carrier. Developing a strategic alliance with the flag airlines of Guatemala (AVIATECA), Costa Rica (LACSA), and Nicaragua (NICA), TACA consolidated operations between 1989 and 1995 under the name of GRUPO TACA, thereby transforming the company into one of the most efficient transportation systems in Latin America.
With two important hubs already in Central America (San Salvador and San Jose) a third hub was added in Lima in 2001 to service South America, thereby offering passengers an integrated network across the entire American continent. TACA currently serves 10 major cities in the United States, Toronto in Canada, Mexico City, all of the countries of Central America, and the most important business and tourist destinations in South America and the Caribbean.
TACA serves more than thirty five cities, including daily flights to nine major cities in the United States, daily flights with immediate connections to important business and tourist centers in South America and the Caribbean, multiple daily flights between all of the airports in Central America, daily flights to two cities in Mexico, daily flights to Toronto, Canada, and the only scheduled service between Cuba and North America. Our efficient and highly successful route structure centers on three hubs: one in San Jose, Costa Rica, which facilitates connections to South America; one in San Salvador, which facilitates connections to Mexico, the United States, and Europe; and the third in Lima, Peru, which facilitates connecting flights to major cities in South America.
